A Sankt Gilgen, un grazioso paese di soli 3.850 abitanti a ca. 20 km. di distanza da Salisburgo (Austria), vi è una piccola realtà musicale davvero curiosa: un museo di strumenti provenienti da tutti e cinque i continenti, frutto di più di 50 anni di ricerche e viaggi in giro per il globo terrestre, chiamato Musikinstrumenten Museum der Völker (Museo degli strumenti musicali dei popoli).
Con la sua collezione che si aggira intorno ai 5.000 pezzi, il curatore e proprietario del museo Askold zur Eck ci fa immergere in un tour mondiale attraverso le sue appassionanti visite guidate; il sig. Zur Eck inoltre sa suonare la maggior parte di questi preziosi strumenti e durante le sue visite potrete ascoltarli dal vivo come se foste ad un vero e proprio concerto polistrumentale.
La sua passione per la collezione di strumenti musicali di vari paesi è stata trasmessa dai suoi genitori, entrambi musicisti, che avevano da sempre un grande interesse per i viaggi. Zur Eck ha continuato questa tradizione andando lui stesso alla ricerca di nuovi ed interessanti pezzi da aggiungere alla sua numerosa collezione. Al momento lo strumento più antico che possiede è un flauto risalente a 2.500 anni fa, sicuramente un oggetto più unico che raro!
Ma perché un museo del genere proprio a Sankt Gilgen, città natale della madre di W.A.Mozart?
Zur Eck afferma che qui i suoi genitori erano soliti venire in vacanza ed essendosi innamorati del posto hanno deciso di proporre questo loro progetto musicale, proposta che è stata subito accolta dalla comunità locale.

The rediscovery of a small, great musical museum in Austria
In Sankt Gilgen, a village of only 3,850 inhabitants at ca. 20 km. away from Salzburg (Austria), there is a very curious little musical reality: a museum of musical instruments from all around the world, the result of more than 50 years of research and travel around the globe called Musikinstrumenten Museum der Völker (Museum of Folk Musical Instruments).
The curator and owner of the museum Askold zur Eck takes us on a world tour through his exciting guided tours with his collection of around 5,000 pieces; Zur Eck can play most of these precious instruments and during his visits you can listen to them live as if you were in a real multi-instrumental concert.
His passion for the musical instruments collection from various countries was transmitted by his parents; they were both musicians and they had always been very interested in travel. Zur Eck has continued their tradition by looking for new and interesting pieces to add to his large collection. At the moment the most ancient instrument in the museum is a flute dating back to 2,500 years ago, certainly a unique object!
But why such a museum in St. Gilgen, the birthplace of W.A.Mozart’s mother?
Zur Eck says that his parents here used to come on holiday and one day they decided to propose their musical project, a proposal that was immediately welcomed by the local community.
